Psychiatry

From a young age, I’ve been fascinated with how the mind works. I got my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology at Yale University. After college I worked for a few years teaching English and then went into social science and medical research. I loved the holistic healing  philosophy of Osteopathy and decided to attend the founding school of Osteopathy, A.T. Still University, receiving a degree in Osteopathic Medicine and completing an undergraduate medical fellowship in Neuro-Muscular Medicine.

I completed my M.D. residency program in Psychiatry and a 2-year fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri where I served as both Chief Resident and Chief Fellow. I received both the “Outstanding Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellow” and “Outstanding Junior Resident” awards by vote of university faculty.

I’m a double Board Certified in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. I am fully licensed to practice medicine in California, Hawaii, and Missouri.

I have cared for patients at all levels of care including inpatient, residential psychiatric facilities, prisons, jails, and juvenile justice facilities, in addition to outpatient clinic settings. As an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry, provided psychiatric training to medical students, psychiatry residents, child psychiatry fellows, practicing psychiatrists, psychotherapists, and primary care physicians. I have experience supervising and reviewing the work of hundreds of psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and therapists and have served as an expert witness, provided court testimony, and conducted forensic psychiatric evaluations. One of my proudest achievements as a psychiatrist is that I served as an advocate for transgender and gender non-conforming prison inmates and helped shape state prison policy to better meet their needs. I am also a Qualified Medical Examiner certified by the state of California.

Holistic Healing and Integrative Mental Health

I’ve studied spirituality, energy healing, yoga, and meditation for over 25 years.

I first learned Reiki when I was working as a hospice volunteer prior to going to medical school. While in medical school, I discovered Pranic Healing, a unique energy healing modality, and decided to study this healing modality in depth becoming an Associate Certified Pranic Healer and Pranic Healing instructor. I was honored to serve as an assistant teacher for Master Stephen Co’s class: Healers Mastery Pranic Healing.

I have received formal training in working with intuitive guidance from Aliza Tonooka and Maria Halvorsen. I have extensively studied nutritional therapy, nutraceuticals, and homeopathy integrating them into my work.

Personal

I’m a married mother of 3 children, and I live on a small vegan farm in the Sierra Nevada mountains where I raise yaks, peacocks, pigs, sheep, chickens, horses, and mules. I’m happiest when I’m in the forest, under a blue sky, with my kids and pets.
