Frequently Asked Questions
Are you able to see me as a patient if I don’t live in California?
Due to medical licensing and prescribing laws, I’m only able to provide psychiatry services to patients located in California and Hawaii.
I am able to provide coaching to adults living outside of California and Hawaii.
What is the difference between coaching and psychiatry?
There are many differences, but here are the key distinctions:
In psychiatry, a psychiatric diagnosis is provided, and we use various modalities including psychotherapy and medication to address that diagnosis. Additionally, we look at the body and mind from a biomedical perspective sometimes ordering labs or other medical studies.
In coaching, I help the client gain clarity on their goals, and I help guide, encourage, and empower the client in achieving those goals. Diagnosis and medications are not part of coaching.
Can I see you in person?
Yes, I can see you in-person in my office in Modesto. In-person visits at locations other than my office in Modesto can be scheduled for additional fees including travel time and expenses.
Do you take patients of all ages?
Yes, as a board certified Adult and Child / Adolescent psychiatrist, I provide care for people of all ages.
What conditions do you typically work with?
Mood (depression, bipolar disorder)
Anxiety (generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, OCD, panic attacks)
Developmental disorders such as Autism and Intellectual Disability
Spiritual Awakening and spiritual concerns
Parenting and relationship concerns
Life transitions
Trauma and PTSD
If I’m concerned that my child has been misdiagnosed or is on the wrong medications, can you help?
I’m happy to take a fresh look at your child’s diagnosis and mediations. Children are rapidly changing, and it is important to review diagnoses and medications to make sure that your child’s needs are being optimally met.
Can you be my psychiatrist and my child’s psychiatrist?
Generally, it’s best for family members’ to have their own psychiatrist. If your child is my patient, I will be able to provide parenting guidance, but the focus of sessions will be on your child. If you are an adult struggling with your own mental health and parenting concerns, then working with me directly as a patient will likely benefit your your child.
Do you prescribe medications?
Yes, I prescribe medication in addition to providing psychotherapy and other healing modalities. I will work closely with you to determine the best medications for you.
Do you take insurance?
No, I do not bill insurance directly. I can give you a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company and request that they reimburse you directly. Insurances vary greatly as to how much they will reimburse for appointments. Some insurance will not cover out of network care at all. Please call your insurance company directly to find out how much you might be reimbursed if you submit a superbill.
I am not in-network with Medicare or with any insurance company.
